Hope Rides

Creating Moments of Connection, Comfort & Joy Through Horses
Hope Rides is a gentle and meaningful program created for children with complex medical needs and those facing serious or critical illnesses. In partnership with Hope Rises, this program is designed to provide children and families with a peaceful space outside of clinical environments where they can experience calm, connection, and joy through horses.
Every Hope Rides experience is intentionally designed around the individual child, allowing them to interact with horses in a way that feels safe, comfortable, and meaningful.
Experiences may include:
-
Grooming and gentle interaction with horses
-
Walking beside or leading a horse
-
Observation and connection-based experiences
A Child-Centered & Compassionate Experience
Hope Rides is thoughtfully coordinated in partnership with Hope Rises to ensure every child’s participation aligns with their unique needs, family support system, and physician guidance. Safety, compassion, and trust remain at the center of every interaction.
There is no pressure or expectation during sessions. Some children may choose quiet observation, while others may engage more directly with the horses. Each experience is adapted to the child’s comfort level and emotional needs.
The program is designed to provide:
-
A calming break from appointments and treatments
-
Meaningful connection through horses
-
A safe and supportive environment for families
-
Gentle, individualized experiences
-
Opportunities for confidence, comfort, and joy
-
Space for children to simply be kids
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to remain present throughout the experience, helping create a supportive atmosphere not only for the child, but for the entire family.
What a Hope Rides Experience Looks Like

Hope Rides events are intentionally kept small, manageable, and flexible to ensure children do not become overwhelmed and that the experience remains positive and uplifting. Activities are adapted based on medical guidance, comfort levels, and individual needs.
Depending on the child and physician guidance, experiences may include:
-
Meeting and interacting with the horses
-
Grooming and gentle touch experiences
-
Walking alongside a horse
-
Calm observation and sensory connection
-
Supported interaction activities
-
In some cases, carefully supervised riding experiences if appropriate
Children are encouraged to move at their own pace and participate only in ways that feel comfortable to them. Even simply standing near the horses can become a meaningful and calming experience.
Participants should wear closed-toe shoes such as boots or sneakers along with comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing. Layers are encouraged during cooler months, and the barn is heated in winter for added comfort.
Families interested in learning more about Hope Rides or being considered for participation should connect directly with Hope Rises for additional information and coordination.
